Piranhas (Pygocentrus nattereri) are freshwater fishes. They have very sharp teeth supported with very powerful jaws and this is the reason why every fish is unsafe in front of a group of piranhas. They are extremely territorial and predatorial fish. Red-bellied piranha is usually the most aggressive piranha.

Important Factors & practices to keep your piranha fish happy & healthy are as follows :

  • Water Condition: The optimal tank water temperature for piranha is between 23 to 28 °C. Piranha fish need a lot of water for them to grow nearly 40 gallons per 4 fishes in an aquarium tank.

  • pH Level: The ideal pH level for piranha fish is between 5.5 to 8.0 which is slightly acidic.

  • Water Filtration: A normal water filtration machine will do no good for piranha fish as they create lots of fish debris while eating. Hence a strong water filtration is a basic necessity of an aquarium with piranha fish along with a regular change of aquarium water time after time.
  • Feeding: Piranhas are generally omnivorous and feed on a feeder fish, shrimp, other small fishes, flakes, pellets, spinach, etc.
